SUZETTE'S SELECTIONS

Don't Assume I Don't Cook
by Jane Evershed
A great gift idea for all your feminist foremothers.

No More Frogs to Kiss:99 Ways to Give Economic Power to Girls,
by Joline Godfrey (Editor)
A great book for young women, their families and mentors filled with practical advice on economic independence for young women. I sent a copy of this to my niece this Winter. She's sixteen and recently driving so I am not holding my breath for feedback. SJH

Girls Who Rocked the World: Heroines from Sacajawea to Sheryl Swopes
I loved this one. Sent it enmass to my chosen sisters' daughters, but not before I had devoured it myself. There were many great feminists in here that I hadn't heard of!! Interspersed with historical material about young women who have made significant contributions to history are interview excerpts with young feminists sharing their hopes and dreams of how they plan to "Rock the World." SJH

Ecofeminism and the Sacred
by Carol J. Adams
A superb collection of essays on the concerns, triumphs and problems of ecofeminism in itself and its place within the greater feminist movement. A must on my bookshelf. SJH

Rebirth of the Goddess: Finding Meaning in Feminist Spirituality
by Carol Christ
I love Carol Christ's work and her insistence that Goddess Spirituality has a home in feminism (or maybe feminism has a home in Goddess Spirituality. This is her new release and I want it and that is why this book is on this page. It's going to be my first Ohio NOW Store purchase. SJH

Eighty Years and More: Reminiscences 1815-1897
by Elizabeth Cady Stanton
Stanton reflects on her work and writing partnership with Susan B. Anthony. Included are her reflections on spending her life striving for something she was not going to see come to fruition. SJH

Sisterhood is Global: The International Women's Movement Anthology
by Robin Morgan (Editor)
The classic in it's third (I believe) edition. SJH

Tough Girls: Women Warriors and Wonder Women in Popular Culture
by Sherrie A. Inness
All right, I just liked the title. SJH

Women of Wonder:The Classic Years: Science Fiction by Women from the 1940's to the 1970's
by Pamela Sargent (editor)
Complete reprint of the original paperbacks in a nice glossy trade paperback. If you haven't read Science Fiction and still think that it is only ripped biceps and male egos, you are in for a surprise. Women of Wonder dares to look at what the future might hold for women, written by women. These authors hold the visions that the rest of us need to bring to fruition. SJH

Women of Wonder:The Contemporary Years: Science Fiction by Women from the 1970's to the 1990's
by Pamela Sargent (editor)
A completely new addition with work from some of the best in the Science Fiction field. Feminism isn't dead here. SJH

Songs for Earthlings: A Green Spirituality Songbook
by Julie Forest Middleton (editor)
Includes 430 songs, chants, and rounds for Earth-based and Goddess-centered spirituality. Guitar chords included on most songs. A wonderful collection for anyone seeking alternative paths. Average customer
review : 5 stars. SJH

Judy Katz, NO FAIRY GODMOTHERS, NO MAGIC WANDS: THE HEALING PROCESS AFTER RAPE gives the best account of the profound psychological damage done by rape and its continuing consequences for individuals and communities. The author tells about her own experiences in a style that is vivid and gripping. I have used this in college level classes with great success.
